The first M151 Military Utility Tactical Truck was made in 1951 by Ford. It was a replacement of the M38 and M38A1 jeeps.
These vehicles are great to ride. They have independent suspension and coil springs. You can go faster and further in these as compared to the M38 series. One serious note though: the original M151 needed some help to avoid the coil springs from floating and causing possible rollovers.
The M151A2 fixes this problem, and they are what you usually find for sale. If you do buy a M151, make sure it has a roll cage.
This fine vehicle served well until the Humvee HMMWV started replacing it in the field.
For most cases, you will only find M151A2s for sale. There are M151A1 models out there to be sure though, so always make sure you know what you’re buying.
And one fun fact: The M151A1D was a M151A1, but designed to carry around a nuclear missle!
